My 5 year journey leading experience design for Mastercard’s Lab for Financial Inclusion, in Kenya, has come to an end. I officially joined Mastercard’s Global Customer Experience & Design team and am once again based in New York City.
In my new role as Director of Product Experience Design, my work will focus on Commercial payments, Strategic Growth, and Core Payments. I’m looking forward to bring my regional experiences to the global team, to make sure we’re taking into account the market nuances into product design.
There are too many people in Nairobi to thank, too many meaningful experiences to share, and too many insights to unpack. The biggest and the most helpful takeaway is a holistic appreciation Genchi Genbutsu, which is a principle that was developed in the Toyota Way.
Genchi Genbutsu: is a Japanese management principle, central to the Toyota Way, that means “go and see for yourself” to fully understand a problem by directly observing the source rather than relying on secondhand reports.
